Hey hey heyyyyyy, thank you for all the continued support through comments, favs, views, and llamas. It all brightens my day and encourages me to keep creating and making tutorials (which I have a few in the works for you!)
So recap of February since it's almost over... that seems so surreal to even type that.
Obviously made it through my birthday and attended a mac & cheese festival. It was so delicious and glorious. I don't feel any older physically, but I guess I can feel myself growing more distant from some of the younger more rowdy crowds in the area and especially at cons. Not a bad thing really, but just something I've noticed.
Anyway, after my birthday, it was crunch time for Katsucon. I did manage to get both my new costumes done with the encouragement and some help. My mother visited and found me about to give up on the feather wings for Rafiel (and Rafiel without the wings = not Rafiel basically so it was all or nothing). She told me I was not allowed to just quit, sat down, and helped me trim the feathers which saved me hours of work. I was able to get the second wing done on Tuesday before Katsucon and used Wednesday night to pack.
Speshul shoutouts to Kells, Carmels, Amanda, Emi, Vicki and Jack (whom I didn't see but I know he was there), Sara, the CT Gang, Al/EBK, Banana guy with a giant spoon, Swoz, FoxFangPhotos, Mary, Bri, Clarice, Niki, and all the other crazy mofos. You guys made my con remarkably enjoyable despite being a bit sickly and a few issues.
Run down of costumes I actually wore and when:
FridayAM: Jack Frost (derpy times and photos on the beach + checking out the Peep Store!!!)
PM: Prince Emerald (for photoshoots and Hall Cosplay Contest)
Late PM: Jack Frost (chill times)
SaturdayPM: Rafiel (photoshoot times)
Late PM: Jack Frost (attended RoTG gathering)
Later PM: Schala (attended Chrono Trigger gathering)
Even later PM: Jack Frost (chill times)
SundayJack Frost
Why so much Jack Frost? I lacked the will to feel "dressed" at this con. Jack's costume is pretty much like what I wear when I get home from work after a day of teaching the
mutantsstudents so it basically invoked an instant sense of comfort, coziness, and relaxation. The less than balmy temps were not a problem either, I live in a place where we get excited if it's above 0℉ and anything above 40℉ is fair game for shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops. We got this.
That aside, I had a good time hanging out with old friends and making new ones. I was under the weather the 2 weeks leading up to Katsucon with a major sinus infection, this one made my teeth ache in addition to my usual symptoms of dizziness, pressure/pain around my eyes, headaches, and general fatigue. It did get the better of me on Saturday evening.
One thing that did lift my spirits in addition to good friends and good times was the Hall Cosplay contest results. I never go in expecting a thing... except maybe to get laughed out of the room

. But anyway, I had asked the judges to put me in whatever division they felt I fit into. Judging went smoothly and I found the judges very easy and fun to talk to. It was late-ish when I saw them and they had seen a number of costumes before me but they were still enthusiastic and supportive, a refreshing change from what is the case many times. Judging experience aside, I was awarded Best Craftsman (approximately their equivalent to what other cons call "Masters) for craftsmanship for my Prince Emerald costume. I was thrilled!
Hopefully at the next con I will have more "hang out" time. I feel like many people I saw mostly got a quick "HEY HOW ARE YOU? HOW'S YOUR CON GOING?" and then we parted ways. But who am I kidding, Katsucon is all about INTENSITY because people need their frigging gazebo pics. Hahah.
Speaking of gazebos and pics, I do not have any legit photos from the gazebo area because I think that's rather boring. I actually wanted photos in front of the ballroom but that was off limits this year for another convention.I should have 2 sets of pics surfacing for Jack Frost, some of them derpy, and one set of photos for Rafiel whose wings were too big for the green screen at the photobooth. So fucking classy. Math was never my strength. Measuring and such, how does I?
And with that, it's probably time to crash since my vacation is and has been over but I'm still running on my "con/vacation" don't need to sleep til 1am schedule which is brutal when you wake up at 6ish for work. Oops.
The wings... yes, totally as well-balanced as all my sword. Ahahah. Let's just say I need to re-engineer some things. LOL
And that's awesome about your mum helping you out. I could never work on a costume with mine, we'd spend more time arguing then actually getting any work done.
She also didn't like the idea of me being so close to done with the costume and letting the feathers on 1 wing be the reason I dropped it for that con. Mothers are crazy though, no one knows what goes on in their minds. Hahaha.
And now that I think about it, mine did help me once with a shirt that frankly was a simple shirt, but was doing everything in it's power to be complicated.
